About AJWC
About us ...
The AJWC is an energized group of Amherst, New Hampshire women looking to help make a difference in our community and in the lives of those less fortunate. Our club is comprised of a very diverse group of women. Our members are doctors, nurses, business owners, lawyers, housewives, stay-at-home Moms, teachers, real estate agents, photographers, store owners, beauty pageant winners, politicians, students, and more. Each one of us brings something unique to the club whether it’s time, talent, or networking ability. We pool our resources together to accomplish our goals and help make the world a brighter place.
Each year we raise funds that go directly to our local schools and our Community Improvement Project funds. In the 2010-11 season, we were proud to raise over $10,000 for our local schools and donate over $41,000 to other local organizations in need. (Click here to see the list.) It’s important to recognize that much of our success is attributed to the generosity of local organizations, businesses, and individuals like you!
New members are always welcome to join us. The more members we have, the more we can accomplish as a club. If you are interested in joining, please click here for more information.
The Amherst Junior Women's Club was founded in 1965 by Marion Sortevik and Carolyn Byrnes. Today, membership totals close to a 100 dedicated women who strive for intellectual, social, and civic improvement.
In addition to school fundraisers and scholarships to graduating SHS students, the Amherst Junior Women's Club works diligently within our community to help those less fortunate. Every year we raise funds through Community Involvement Projects. In the spring, we solicit to other non-profit organizations that could benefit from these funds and disburse our funds based on expressed need. Below is a list of just some of the organizations that AJWC has helped over the past few years.
